Spring Break Survival Guide 2017

Believe it or not, Spring Break is right around the corner! Stumped on what to do with your little ones this year? No need to stress because there is plenty going on in Grand Rapids to keep your kids active and engaged! Check out just a few of the amazing day camps and activities your kids can participate in this year.

With so many locations serving West Michigan, it is easy to find a YMCA Spring Break camp that’s convenient for you while fitting your little ones needs. During the week of Spring Break, your kid will enjoy a variety of activities including sports, rock climbing, swimming, arts and crafts, and so much more. Choose to attend anywhere from one to five days. Scholarships are also available for those who qualify. The Salvation Army KROC Center is another great Spring Break option for active kids. The KROC Center also offers extended care, making it a great choice for working families during Spring Break. Join the Downtown Market Grand Rapids for Spring Break Globetrotters. Offered Tuesday, April 4th through Thursday April 6th, your child has the option of joining one day or all three. Students in grades K through 5th will spend the week taking nature hikes, visiting with farm animals, building forts, and learning about Native American life and Pioneer ways. Over the past decade, Grand Rapids has made its way onto the national map, becoming known for its art and culture scene, its affordability, and it’s family-friendly nature. Grand Rapids wouldn’t be what it has become today without offering so many high quality activities and attractions. The museums of Grand Rapids stand at the forefront of these high quality attractions. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out what the museums of Grand Rapids have to offer, now is the time to take a closer look!

The Grand Rapids Art Museum, better known as the GRAM, serves as the world’s first LEED Gold certified art museum. The 20,000 square foot gallery space hosts numerous exhibits every year, each one as diverse and thought provoking as the next. The GRAM offers the Grand Rapids community much more than just an art though. In addition to its many art exhibitions, you can visit the GRAM for yoga classes, concert series, galas, workshops, and so much more! Currently you can find quite a few one of a kind exhibits on display that you wont want to miss. Prints and Processes is drawn entirely from the museums own collection, displaying etchings, wood cuttings, lithographs, and other print works from the 16th century until now. Discover what West Michigan residents have been collecting in Finders Keepers. This exhibit plays with the question of what inspires many humans to collect certain objects. From rare jewelry to sneakers, you’ll see it all here. Black Waves: The Tattoo Art of Leo Zulueta, displays a visual narrative that tells the rich history behind tattoo art of the Pacific Rim islands. The Grand Rapids Public Museum truly offers something for everyone! The museum consists of three stories, all offering unique exhibits focused on science, history, culture, and technology. Currently on display you can find Whales: Giants of the Deep which will take you on an interactive journey to explore and discover the life of whales. Travel through the remote islands of the Pacific, stretching from Australia to Hawaii in Journey  Through the Pacific. This exhibit explores the history, culture, and heritage of these unique island nations. The Grand Rapids Public Museum also is home to an antique 1928 Spillman Carousel as well as the Roger B.
